Rather than placing a series of treadmills in the basement of an apartment building, we helped spearhead a wellness/social club concept at the top level of the five-story podium in the YARD apartment building in Portland. The project includes retail for locally made products, a series of pools ranging from temperate to ice cold, sauna and steam rooms, programmed studio fitness classes, a full gym, and group and individual body and skin treatment rooms. Interiors were designed by Skylab Architecture and Open Studio Collective with environmental graphics by local photographers and fine artists. The business is membership-based with day passes open to the public and building residents.
